Six Types of Cosmetic Dentistry

A person’s smile is one of the first few things people notice about them during a meeting, and this is enough reason to always want to ensure that it stays healthy all the time. One of the few ways to do this is by adopting cosmetic dentistry measures that have been proven to better people’s smiles over the years.

However, before deciding on any of them, it is also important to know what options are available and if those options are the ideal corrective measures for whatever tooth conditions they may be trying to fix.  It is always advised to speak with an experienced cosmetic dentist before making any decisions.  Here are a few types of cosmetic dentistry options to consider for a healthier smile.

  1. Professional Teeth Whitening

Certain consistent lifestyle and dietary habits tend to take its toll on the teeth over time causing it to develop a particularly yellow or stained color. This can lead to serious self-esteem issues and low confidence levels. However, to correct this, an affected person can decide to schedule a professional teeth whitening session with a dentist or simply request that the dentist prescribes a professional take-home option for his teeth.

The take-home option for professional teeth whitening usually includes ingredients that are used to lift teeth stains or lighten discoloration. So, it is important to follow every instruction left by the dentist for proper application and effectiveness of the session. According to VeryWellHealth, not everyone’s teeth can be whitened so it is important to check with a dentist first before settling for this option.

  1. Dental Veneers

Veneers are also another effective option for having a better smile. They are simply tiny strips of porcelain material that are placed right in front of a patient’s teeth. They can last as long as a decade and can be used to hide various teeth defects ranging from discoloration to gaps, spaces, stains, etc. Dental veneers can also be made from resin composite materials too.

One great advantage of veneers is that they are designed to appear completely natural. Veneers may sometimes require anesthetic preparation of the teeth before placement. They are quick, easy to prepare, and they cause no form of hindrance to speech or smiles.

  1. Composite Bonding

Bonding requires the use of a composite resin material to correct certain defects and imperfections. The material is usually used for defects located at the front of a person’s smile. These defects could rand from large spaces in between the teeth or uneven teeth issues.

Composite bonding can also be used to fix missing tooth structures caused by cracks or chips in the teeth. The material is prepared chairside by a dentist right after he has prepared the mouth for the application of the material.

  1. Dental Implants

Dental implants are metallic materials that are used when a person has a missing tooth or several missing teeth. They can be used as complete replacements for missing teeth, and they can also be used to hold a denture in place. The process usually involves inserting the implant post into the bone and allowing it to osseointegrate.

This process causes the implant post to bond with the bone of the patient, making the dental implant permanent. After this, a dental crown is placed over the implant to create a wonderful smile.

  1. Inlays and Onlays

Dental inlays and Onlays are two different kinds of cosmetic dentistry options. However, they both serve as suitable alternatives to dental fillings, especially when there isn’t enough tooth structure to support a filling and can be made out of tooth-colored materials.

Inlays can be used to replace dental fillings that no longer look good, by being bonded to the affected tooth. Onlays are also used for fixing teeth holes and gaps, however, they can be extended to the chewing surface of a back tooth to replace multiple cusps. After the application process is complete, they tend to leave the patient with a complete smile.

  1. Cosmetic Teeth Reshaping/Teeth Contouring

Cosmetic Teeth Reshaping/Teeth Contouring is also known as odontoplasty, stripping or slenderizing. It usually involves the removal of minute amounts of a person’s teeth to grant the person an even smile. Teeth Reshaping or Teeth Contouring is usually adopted when a person has tiny chips located on the front teeth or when there are uneven teeth scattered across the mouth.

Most tooth reshaping procedures are conducted on minor dental defects that most people feel insecure about. They are not designed to correct major oral health issues.

Reshaping the teeth by just a few millimeters could make a significant impact on a person’s smile. According to Colgate, it usually produces instant results, and so it is extremely beneficial for patients who would like their smile to look a particular way.

Update Regarding Reopening

Dear patient:

We hope this letter finds you and your family in good health. Our community has been through a lot over the last few months, and all of us are looking forward to resuming our normal habits and routines. While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your safety.

Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice and you may have seen this during your visits to our office. Our infection control processes are made so that when you receive care, it’s both safe and comfortable. We want to tell you about the infection control procedures we follow in our practice to keep patients and staff safe.

Our office follows infection control recommendations made by the American Dental Association (ADA), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). We follow the activities of these agencies so that we are up-to-date on any new rulings or guidance that may be issued. We do this to make sure that our infection control procedures are current and adhere to each agencies’ recommendations.

You may see some changes when it is time for your next appointment. We made these changes to help protect our patients and staff. For example:

Our office will communicate with you beforehand to ask some screenings questions. You’ll be asked those same questions again when you are in the office.

We have hand sanitizer that we will ask you to use when you enter the office. You will also find some in the reception area and other places in the office for you to use as needed.

You may see that our waiting room will no longer offer magazines, children’s toys and so forth, since those items are difficult to clean and disinfect.

Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing patients. That might mean that you’re offered fewer options for scheduling your appointment.

We will do our best to allow greater time between patients to reduce waiting times for you, as well as to reduce the number of patients in the reception area at one time.

There is a $25.00 infection control fee per visit.

We look forward to seeing you again and are happy to answer any questions you may have about the steps we take to keep you, and every patient, safe in our practice. To make an appointment, please call our office at 301-464-1800 or visit our www.mybowiedentist.com.

Thank you for being our patient. We value your trust and loyalty and look forward to welcoming you back.

Sincerely,

Dr.Adesanya and Team
